I've been hooked on HeroWarz lately that I managed to level up all of the character's along with one hero over level 100! HeroWarz is new Action RPG with a Diablo like theme featuring a lot of unique playable characters. The game is being developed by a new company called A.Storm. The team leader, Yoon Jong Kim, is well known for working on very popular titles such as Dungeon & Fighter and Cyphers. Hope you got some free time on your hands as I have prepared a very awesome HeroWarz review that is accompanied by a video of all the playable characters.

Playable Characters

The first beta offers ten playable characters. You can see a short preview of what they look like in the video below. I played HeroWarz so much over the weekend that I managed to make a video of ALL the characters. If you're interested in learning more about them or simply want to see their gameplay videos in action, then jump on to the second page. One of the cool features of HeroWarz Online is that you don't have to create a new name for other characters. If you ever get bored with playing your current character, you can simply bring up the character selection menu, then pick the new character you want to level up and play. Not happy with your new character? Then simply change back to your previous character and continue on where you left off.

Gameplay and Controls

Though the game plays a bit like Diablo or Dungeon Striker in terms of clicking around and stuff. The maps in HeroWarz Online is very small, in fact they are no bigger than a medium sized pizza! Just kidding, anyway the maps are small because you're supposed to chain kill the infinite monster spawns. Monsters will spawn endlessly and you will find yourself on a zombie killing spree, endless hordes of monsters after another, until you finish your quest and unlock the next mission.

The controls are very simple, in fact this game can pass up for a mobile tablet game in the future. HeroWarz requires a Mouse and Keyboard to play. BUT! You can not move your character around with the arrow keys or WASD keys. In short, the controls are as follows. LMB (Normal Attack), RMB (Attack or Dodge), Spacebar (Ultimate Skill 1), R (Ultimate Skill 2), LMB+RMB (Ultimate Skill 3), Mouse Wheel Up (Skill 1), Mouse Wheel Down (Skill 2), F (Pick Up Items), G (Setup Tent), B (Teleport to Base). So you're probably wondering how do you use skills then right? The skills in HeroWarz go off automatically upon pressing the LMB on a monster. For example, a skill can go off when you click on a monster that has monsters to it. Depending on the enemy monster formation, a different skill will go off. Four enemies lined up horizontally is a different skill, while as four enemies in a square formation will trigger a different skill upon left click. It also depends on which character you are using, so it become very tricky. The auto attacks in this game are also different. For example, if you're hitting a single monster only. Holding down the left click will trigger the first attack, then the second attack, then the third, and so on. If two or four monsters randomly walk to the single monster you are targeting, a skill will go off depending on the enemy formation. Lastly, you're given the option to change your LMB to the D key for Attacking. That way, your LMB can just be used to navigate your character only and accidentally clicking monsters won't become a problem. The controls are locked at the moment and can not be rebounded.

Questing, Auto-Party, and Leveling Up

HeroWarz is an instanced based mission kind of game so when you are in town. All you have to do is press 'M' to bring up the mission menu. From there, you select which mission you want to complete. After selecting that mission, your character will automatically teleport to that area with random strangers, by yourself, or players who are in the middle of that mission. HeroWarz offers an auto party system where players or you will be able to join any mission at any point. A great feature when you just wanna get stuff done right away. Then again if you're the type of person that just likes to solo through online games, you can turn off the Auto-Party system by clicking on the button above the mini map on the top right hand of the screen. If you end up joining an empty match, you can click the refresh button and it will randomly put you in a different room, perhaps one with more players in it. The maximum amount of players in a Normal mission is 4, I am assuming it will go up once they add a Raid or Boss system in the game.

Level 201 Player @_@.

Leveling is really fast, that is you can handle the repetitive side of the game. Most of the skills for all of the characters stop around level 20-50 which takes roughly about 2-3 hours in to achieve in the game. From there on out, you will find yourself adding points to the existing skills that you have already learned. I really don't like saying this because most people aren't fond of it. But you're going to have to grind and kill a crap load of monsters in HeroWarz Online. In fact, it is a lot of killing, followed by more killing quests and such. If you're the type of person with a very short attention span, then perhaps you might want to overlook this title. At least until they add a PvP system, perhaps they will add something along the lines of 1v1, TDM, Dungeon Fighter PvP, or Cyphers AOS style. Back to the leveling aspect of the game, it is very fast to level up. You should be able to get level 200+ in less than a week or so. Even faster if you were to focus on leveling one character. My game log says that it took me 13 hours to get level 100+. While as leveling a character to 20 should only take about an hour or less.

Okay, let me be honest and clear to you guys. The gameplay is very repetitive but I somehow managed to level up a character to level 100+. Which tells you something. Either I am really crazy or something about this game just makes me want to keep playing and moving forward. Other players ended up grinding as high as level 200+, which is more crazier. I was really looking forward to the big boss fights or stages with just a huge challenging boss but didn't find any. HeroWarz is lacking variety at the moment, the missions are always the same and I always found myself waiting for the 'secret stage' to pop up so that I can experience something new. I enjoyed playing HeroWarz but I think it needs a lot more unique content PvE wise. Since this game is from the same developers of Dungeon Fighter and Cyphers, I am thinking that HeroWarz will focus on PvP content in the future. Unfortunately, the PvP features of the game was not available in the first test. Even with an enjoyable gameplay mechanics the lack of variety and challenging bosses can certainly be the downfall of this game, that is, if it doesn't improve by the next beta. My closing thoughts, I would definitely participate in the next beta. Hope you enjoyed reading another review and check out the second page to see all of the characters in action.

Six characters will be available during the Open Beta. Ara is a character that uses water-based ranged attacks. Audrey is also a ranged character that is thematically focused on firearms and other heavy weapons. B (yes, just 'B') is a melee character that dual wields swords and focuses on flashy, high-speed attacks. Derrick wields what appears to be a manhole cover as a shield and smashes enemies in the face with it. Hades also seems to focus on ranged combat (like most of the game's female characters) by swinging around an enormous flail. Finally, Nagne is a swordsman in a similar style to B but with more of a focus on precision strikes.

Finally, there was a minor disparity between the FAQ and this announcement. The FAQ stated that Open Beta starts on June 30, 2016, but this tweet from the game's official account states that the OBT is already live. I've downloaded and installed the game firsthand so it appears that the FAQ was in error and the Open Beta is indeed live now.
